Best Buy sells Monster cable and at the prices you are looking will be a big step up over the junk that in the box with the DVD player. Coax is generally better than optical, unless you have a lot of RFI. Given that your budget is limited, start with the video connections, then the audio connections from the DVD player to reciever/TV.
