Need progressive scan DVD player/component video cable help!!

I have a Panasonic PT-53WX53 53" Widescreen HDTV tv. I have a NON-progressive scan Sony (cheap) DVD player connected via a Monster 2 (RCA-type) video cable. I am debating on upgrading to a progressive scan player with some nice component video cables. I do know that my tv is capable of progressive scan.

I would like to know of the most inexpensive progressive scan DVD player that is still good (I know you get what you pay for, but I'm really broke after the tv and audio purchase).

I would also like to know of the best component video cables I can get for $75 and under. I was looking at the Monster Cable Video 3 M-series that are 1-meter (MV3CV1M) for $70 at Crutchfield.
