new dvd disc problems

I am having big problems with new disc's I buy or rent .My player is a Yamaha S795 , about 4 years old and is used only for DVD so doesn't have a lot of hours on it .But in the last few months it skips badly on 70% of disc's I rent or buy. I put in an older disc and plays fine.I only buy concert video's so they should be among the easiest disc's to read ?Anyone else having this type of problem with new disc's. I don't want to buy a new player as I need the built in AC-3 decoder.cheers
