marantz sr 4200 and cairn amp

i have at a while a cairn 4808 plus missions 773e, and ive bought a used marantz sr4200 to center and surround speakers, but i have one or two problems, first, i think is strange that to get a proper sound of my fronts, i have to put my cairn in 15 volume (95 min-0max) and with only 2 channels, beeing dvd connected to cairn, i listen at 25/35 volume (15 will shake walls!!), but using now the cairn as a power amp, i have to put volume at 15/20, at 35 almost there is no sound...!!!!! the other question is, when i put my cairn (with dvd) at 20 volume , and make pause at dvd or stop, or have the sr4200 volume minimum, i listen to an zzzzzz at my front speakers, is this normal?!?! sorry but i dont know what to do, and i need help, thanks
