Faroudja rules ! (at least for one night...)

I had a few friends come over to try out my Sharp10000 front projector. Since I don't currently own a Progressive Scan DVD player, I talked one guy into bringing over his Kenwood Sovereign Megachanger (!) with Faroudja. I borrowed an Arcam DV-89 DVD player from a dealer to check out it's video performance.

We played around with the Faroudja test tracks which came with the Kenwood demo disk and tried it with both players sending either progressive or interlaced to the Sharp.

I was disappointed with the Arcam. An $1800 DVD player ought to give me very good picture quality... I guess not. I preferred the Sharps' built-in de-interlacing to the Arcams.

OTOH, The Faroudja de-interlacing in the Kenwood seemed a bit better than the Sharps. The test tracks included a video of an American flag waving in the breeze. The Kenwood was clearly better than the Sharp while the Arcam finished 3rd IMHO.

Arcam's "Motion Adaptive Progressive Scan" wasn't up to the task IMO. We didn't bother checking out the Arcam's audio capabilities which was probably it's strength.

Now I've eliminated one (1) DVD player in the search for a good source (a gazillion more to consider, though...)
