They didn't try repair?

Currently, the Sony repair procedure is 1) making some repairs to the board, then if it doesn't work, 2) replacing the bulb with a different bulb, which just came out. Service tech from Sears and Circuit city, etc have been doing this repair at home under warranty.

I personally prefer the PQ of Sony over Samsung (besides I get a headache with Samsung DLP). Sony's being built currently should have the bulb problem fixed. Then again, the delivery time is probably not that soon if you wait. Also, consider that some time this year, the "new" improved DLP technology TV's will be released as well as probably new generation of Sony LCD (probably end of year)...
