Hi Joel,

Last month I posted some suggestions to your previous optical eq post. Have you had a chance to call Sweetwater or investigate the Sony TAE9000ES as a preamp alternative?

A full 6ch digital equalizer with DD in and DD out is going to be quite expensive because it pushes the technology curve at this time.

IN-> [ DD decoder -> 6+ch digital eq -> DD encoder ] ->OUT

Also, I can forsee three problems: 1) audio latency going through the processing chain can easily cause a lipsync problem with video if you're planning a HT system, thus requiring a digital video delay; 2) the reencoding stage from 6ch PCM back to DD is going to compromise your audio fidelity; and 3) the DD encoder is going to be really expensive.

If you're dead set on doing this (and of course if money is no object), you might want to check out DVD mastering/recording equipment. It might be possible to get something computer based, so you can reuse your PC.

Please let us know what your search turns up!

Yours,

--andy
