I have a Mitsu Gold 55", my parents have a 50" Sony and my sister has a Pioneer 62" or 63" ( ?? ) model.

I was not initially impressed with my Mitsu when it was delivered. They came out and adjusted the convergence, which was off by quite a bit. This was better, but still not what i saw in the showroom. I was thinking about returning it until i had calibrated it using the Video Essentials DVD calibration disc. It made a WORLD of difference and i highly recommend either this or the Avia DVD if you really want to get the best out of ANY type of video installation.

While i haven't gotten over to calibrate my sisters Pioneer via the DVD test discs that i have, quite honestly, her picture is pretty bad. Her Pioneer is less than two years old and has already had TWO of the same modules go out that would have been MULTIPLE HUNDREDS of dollars to replace. Luckily, she was smart enough to take the extended warranty ( as ANYONE who is going to buy a TV like this should ). Based on the picture out of it and it's reliability problems, i would avoid a Pioneer. Then again, she might have gotten the "lemon" out of the bunch.

My parent's Sony gets a pretty good picture, but my Dad has calibrated it via a laser test disc that he has. He also commented that doing this greatly improved the picture as compared to running it set at the factory defaults.

If you don't already have a rear projection set, you should become familiar with what is involved in setting up your room for best performance before buying one. This is especially true for one the size and cost that your talking about. For best results, they like very dark rooms with a small amount of light coming from behind them. If you can't keep the overhead or front light down to a minimum, your resolution will suffer drastically. Sean
