Hi Barry,I've never heard that Advent sub, so I can't comment on that. I think a good thing to do might be to get a pair of good floorstanders, center, and sub for around $1,000, then add the rears later. The rears especially can be skimped on early. They only play 10% of the time, so you can really use whatever you have laying around.
In the long run, I think this makes sense rather than getting everything at the same time. Still, there are some very decent setups to be had for your budget. Paradigm especially is considered a bargain at that price point. Look into them and also Energy. Go to your local HT/audio store (not mass-market stores) and seek advice there too.
