Joel,

There are a few questions that need to be asked first:

1) Are you referring to adding a 2 channel preamp to your system?

If yes, then in my experience a dedicated 2 channel preamp gained
me a sonic benefit, for music, in my system.

2) What percentage of HT and music do you listen to with your system?

If you listen to very little music then maybe a 2 channel preamp
would not give you much benefit over what you have now.

3) Are you using a receiver or are you currently using a HT
preamp/processor and external amps?

You will only be able to use a 2 channel preamp if you have direct
access to the amps, as it connects directly to them.
