Whether Dolby Digital or not, your front speakers are still regarded as "full range" speakers.
And you are not missing any bass info. All your bass is covered by your fronts and subwoofer (through LFE - the .1 in 5.1). Anyway, you are more likely to feel those lower frequencies (>40Hz) than actually hear it.
