Questions on Onkyo DV-C600 6 DVD changer

209.176.105.96

While I really like the performance of my Pioneer, the choppy scan has been getting on my nerves(for awhile now). The excellent performance this player offers, was enough to overlook this. The only players that I knew that had a smooth search feature were Sony and Panasonics. I had the layer change chapter skip with Panasonic. I've also heard of other picture quality problems. To say the least, I feel that would be a definate gamble.

Sony has had it's problems also, and I'm starting not to trust them. My television already needs repair and it's not even 1 year old. The synch problems with their 9000preamp and now their new DVD players(funny, old ones were fine), has me really questioning them.

I can't go to a Toshiba because almost all my DVDs are anamorphic and I don't use a widescreen TV. I can't accept the reported poor downconverting to letterbox, these players have had reported by users and magazine reviewers.

Up in the air about JVC, as they don't offer any high performance gear, but budget, mass market gear, with only mediocre performance. I've never seen an excellent review for any of their equipment. I've also had reliability problems with my JVC products. So they aren't at the top of my list.

Philips is O.K. for DVD players I guess, but I don't care for anything else they make. So I've really limited my options down.

I went and looked at the Onkyo DV-C600 6 DVD changer. Although I'm not a huge fan of Onkyo, from all the reported receiver quirks and problems, I am somewhat interested in this player. It should offer good performance, being Onkyo is one of the top audio/video makers. What I found, is that this model offers smooth search scanning at 2X speed. The same as the Panasonic and Sony. While some retailers market Panasonic and Sony because of this smooth search, they never mentioned that this Onkyo has it also. My questions are does this Onkyo offer excellent picture quality, with excellent anamorphic downconversion to letter box? Is there any DVD disc compatability problems? Is there any reliability problems? Is there any quirks? The most important question "Is the insides made from Toshiba, Philips, or another maker?" The older Onkyo DVD players were said to be clones of Toshiba models. Toshibas are on the very bottom of my list, so I don't want to be duped into buying one, with another manufacturer's name on it. Also, will this player offer the excellent picture I've seen on my Pioneer DV-414? Out of curiousity, are there any other brands that offer this SMOOTH SEARCH 2X speed? Thanks for the future responses.
