Loss of DVD picture quality

My 2 year old Onkyo DVD Model DV-S501 has lost it's picture quality. The picture is now grainy and has lost the sharp focus that it had when the DVD was first connected to the tv 3 months ago.
The DVD is connected directly to a Toshiba 50inch rear projection tv. I have tried composite video, 'S' video and RGB component connected direct to the tv. There is no improvement.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
