I was at a BestBuy the other day and wondered into the widescreen TV section, Im not looking for a TV (Im still a poor student), and I would probably go with a tube as opposed to internal projection, but its always fun to shop.
My girlfriend commented obout how bright an vibrant the TVs were and I told her about how 'back in the day' high pressure sales people would crank up the contrast and brightness, this would have the double effect of making a dimmish projection TV look a lot brighter, and it just looks different. I think every one can fall for the different is better psych-out, especially if you are buy something expensive like a large TV.
Out of curiosity I check the picture settings I was surprised to see everything cranked up and something called color tone or what ever at 100%, Oldest trick in the book! All the TVs were showing 'A bugs life' cartoon so you couldnt tell how out of wack the settings were!
Although I wasnt about to buy anything, I was still sort of insulted. Its fully within their right to set the TVs like this but the product isnt operating under normal condidtions. Anyway thats my complain and warning, check those settings before you buy, ANY AV product.
