**** chanel stereo. This is a common mistake though and nitpicking)Sorry, you are mistaken, not EVERY player has a DD decoder built in. In fact MANY of the lower end DVD players Did NOT have one. The Toshiba SD2109 to be exact, several Sony, Pioneer and panasonic models do not!
