Is there a (cheap) way to split cable TV signal for Receiver input?

What I'm trying to accomplish is input the audio and video portions of the coax TV cable directly into my receiver so that I can listen to TV with my sound system. This could be done even while my VCR is taping another TV program.
Currently, the TV cable is split to my VCR and my TV. From my VCR the audio and video output goes to my receiver. (normal scenario) My TV is about 5 years old, and it only has audio and video inputs, but no outputs.
I have unused audio and video inputs in my receiver, but don't know if there's an inexpensive device to purchase or build that would split the signal into audio and video portions for input into the receiver.
The only solution I can come up with is to buy a second VCR. Some on the market are only $80 or $100, but it seems that there must be something else in the $10-$20 range that would do the job.
Any ideas?
[Don't laugh, I'm perfectly happy myself with the regular sound from the TV most of the time, this is a "make wife happy" request. OK, now you can laugh.]
