Need help choosing 16:9 tube set!

In the thirty-something inch field, there's a Sony, a Phillips, and a Loowe(spelling?). They are in the 2 to 4 thousand range at Sound Advice. I have a few questions.
Can anyone recommend one over the other based on value and picture quality? Also, are there others out there I'm not aware of? I wasn't very confident of the saleman's knowledge of the products he did have and didn't expect him to help me compare with something they don't carry.
Should I wait? I mean they were all 1080i sets according to the salesman (see above), but is there any reason not to buy now, besides the obvious that if I wait they will get cheaper?
