I have a Loewe Planus...

63.225.127.138

which is now going/has been replaced, but the PLanus is quite extraordinary! The replacement is flat screen and 1080i (I believe), but the Planus is quite up to the task to doing DVD's all the justice they require. It's 480p, 16:9 aspect ratio, digital, and has 5 "format" settings- 16:9, 4:3, panorama, cinema, and zoom, all of these great options that allow you to select basically the perfect setting for any source material. the sound is great too, 6 speakers. I've watched DVD's using a Pioneer DV-09 and Audioquest YQ-2 component interconnects, movies such as Eyes Wide Shut, U2's Rattle and Hum, A Bug's Life, Jurassic Park, etc. and the video is revealing and true to the film's original quality. I bought mine on closeout for 2375, and the local dealer told me the replacement coming out is around 4k. Obviously, the new model probably eclipses the Planus with its completely flat image, but not by much I think. I thought a flat image makes a huge difference, but the PLanus is very flat as is. Recently, I was at the dealer again, and noticed a large Mitsubishi rear projection tv for about 4k, and it was high def, widescreen, and absolutely fantastic! If I was spending 4k, I think the mitsubishi would be it, but I didn't catch the model, sorry. What I liked about the mitsubishi (tuned into PBS' high def broadcast) was the fact that it being rear projection gave a very smooth non-pixelish image, the size of the image, its flatness, and the very natural image that was being portrayed both in colour and clarity. I recommend checking out a Loewe and Mitsubishi.
