Though I'm not a videophile (I am an avid audiophile), I thought you guys just might like to hear about this screen. Actually, this is also a solicitation to anyone to give me feedback on their experience with or knowledge of this screen:
My company is in the market for a 8'X6' rear projection screen and LCD projector in order to go around the major snowboard competitions this winter and show our video and live feed on our "HummerVision" (basically a Hummer with a huge TV screen on it.) Our bugaboo in this endeavour is ambient light. We were looking at very high ANSI lumen projectors (2,200 to 3,000) projected onto a Fast-Fold Dalite rear projection screen. That is, until we saw this VERY new product by 3M that is offered by only one dealer with an exlusive agreement with 3M. Luckily for us, that dealer is only 4 miles away.
The short of it is, the brightness, depth, contrast, detail and ambient light rejection of this screen was so far superior to the Dalite screen that it was absolutely no contest (and this assessment is from someone who is ignorant in the finer point in high-end video). The dealer set up a 1000 ANSI lumen projector on the GlasFire (6'X4' size - the screen is actually dark gray!!!!) and had the same image simultaneously projected from a 2000 ANSI lumen projector onto the Dalite screen (also 6'x4' size). The Glasfire with the projector half as powerful smoked the Dalite; and furthermore, when all of the studio lights went on, the degradation in the Glasfire image was slight compared to the Dalite.
I was hoping to get a little conversation started on this product as I (a know-nothing with video stuff) was floored by the difference and I know that if I can help bring this to your attention, it may help you enjoy your hobby all that much more.
Has anyone ever heard of this before?
P.S. - the stuff costs around $100 PER SQUARE FOOT!!!!!!!!
