Re: NEW RUNCO DLP Projectors

VX-101c was very impressive. With animated dvd's the picture looked as good as the RUNCO's DTV-943. However, when I compared Mel Gobson's movie the Patriot, the CRT (943) proved to show much better flesh tones and more detail with the grass, shrubbery, etc. I looked at 3 different DLPs and RUNCO's performed the best. It's better than the LCD projectors. I was looking on a 90" wide screen when comparing the two. The CRT was $2000 more expensive (both includes the scaler). However, VX-101c is very bright. You can enjoy watching the show with the lights on. However, with the CRT, the room needs to be black. Any external lightsource in the room will degrade the picture GREATLY. So you need to decide your viewing habits. For most people, VX-101c may be the way to go because of the external light from the sun or room. However, if you can control the light in the room (black room) the CRT will still provide a superior picture.

As far as the maintenance. The DLPs are very low which is nice. When the bulb burns out, just get a new one and you don't have to worry about calibrating, unlike a CRT, every year and CRT bulbs are more expensive.

Like I said, if you have external light source, go with the VX-101c.

If you can goto a retailer to view the unit, it's not a waste of time and the best option.

One other thing, DLP is easy to move around and is a small unit that can hide with your decor.

Goodluck
