My best friend has one and the picture quality is comparable to my Sony DVD player and his Panasonic.

Sound was a whole other issue though. I think it will only accept a fiber digital cable (which is what he used) and it seemed very very bright vs. his DVD player. Also, he doesn't have a remote and using the controller isn't very easy.

But, for games it is all that it's been hyped to be. Old games load very fast and the sound is much better (it doesn't pop or click). New games are mixed bag, some look fantastic, others, on the other hand, look just like PS1.
