I compared the MC-1 to the Cal SSP-2500. I bought the Cal mainly because it is vastly superior on 2 channel and has an analog bypass for 2 channel so stuff like SACD does not get digitized again at a lower resolution. If you are going to be using the Lexicon for movies only it will be a great choice as it has a wide range of set-ups and Lexicon has a great upgrade program. The Cal however is much cleaner sounding and does a better job sonically in all areas than the Lexicon. Cal does not have as many surround modes and at the moment does not support Dolby-ex but I am sure this will be added soon. If you are going to be using 2 separte system one for audio and one for movies the Lexicon would make a good choice as it would allow you to to keep up with the lastest surround formats . But if you plan on having one system, definely buy the Cal audio as it is a much better stereo pre-amp and with the analog by pass you can enjoy SACD in 2 channel.
