... have been astounded at how good redbook CDs sound and how well many movie tracks have been recorded. It processes Dolby suuround so well the Dolby Digital 5.1 sound tracks are not a dramatic improvement. They are better but not by a wide margin.

The 568 is supposed to be very similar but with fewer card slots and less flexibility.

No, I have not compared the 861 to other processors and there may be better value units around. However Meridian have a very high reputation in this field. I'd love to get one of their players but there has been a lot of negative feedback on them - they use cheap computer drives, .... so I'm holding back at the moment. Also wait to see what happens about DVD-A.
