Even new, some projectors do not give a satisfying picture. Used ones could cost heaps more than a new one to bring up to scratch.

Also, bear in mind that projectors need darkened rooms. By all means audition rear projectors as some have brilliant pictures, but forget about large screen front projectors unless you have a budget 10X the one you quoted.

Also, to get the most out of your DVD player, make sure the unit you buy has component input, even if your present player does not have it. As for progressive scan, ask someone else as I'm not educated enough about that to advise.
