I am a newbee to this board, the digital audio is way more dynamic than the analog recorder, the analog sound is generally compressed, so it seems louder all the time, but less dynamic. The DVD is going to require more headroom, from it's quieter sounds to the louder sounds.. so to keep everything from reaching the point of distortion, like your -10db inputs on your reciever, the level is set a bit lower. Your DVD specifications will indicate what the audio out level is.
