merits of the centre channel / how important ?

Hi all,
I have a very modest set up for HT:
Denon AVR-1601 receiver
Toshiba SD-1600 DVD player
PSB Alpha AV mains
PSB Subsonic 5 subwoofer
PSB Alpha Mite rears.
You will notice there is no mention of a centre, my dealer was out of PSB Alpha centres, so he let me take a traded-in Energy AC-300, in gloss black which he only wants $160.00 USD for until the PSB centre comes in stock....
Hmmmmmm, this unit, although much physically larger, seems to be much more robust sounding than I remember the PSB sounding.
I guess my questions are two-fold......
1.) Would others out there who have knowledge of both these centres recommend taking the Energy AC-300 over the PSB centre?
2.) Will this upset the "matched" balance of the sound I would have had with the PSB centre being with it's own family?
I sincerely appreciate any advice in advance.
