please help with i/o problem........

24.176.253.107

i have an older sony svhs player slv-r5uc that has --> line-in/monitor out/line-out <-- on the back and all with s-video/composite rca and l+r rca audio.

there is also a line2 on the front for camera/game/etc with all the inputs like the others.

i also just put together my htpc with creative labs pc-dvd player and dxr3 card.

i want to use the vcr as the switching for cable/vhs/dvd.

i have the monitor out of the vcr going to the monitor in of the tv.

the only way i can get the dvd signal through the vcr is by using line2 on the front.

if i use line-in on the back the signal never gets out to the tv no matter what input i choose.

i dont want cables snaking out in front of the vcr to use line2.

any ideas as to what may be going on ?

thanks cuz im stymied.
