Peter, here's my opinion and I DO understand that you requested not to hear this.

Please take into consideration that by waiting a month or three and carefully saving a few extra dollars over this time would, maybe allow you to step up the line to the 3300 or 3801 which is only MSRP $500.00 more. (For the 3300)

$500.00 is a lot of money to me too, but you'll get sooo much more for the money! You’ll get more digital in’s AND more video inputs for switching, AND a 6 channel pre-out for driving an external amp later. It makes for a pretty good pre-amp verses trying to use it as an amp, with an external Pre-amp, as you suggested you might want to do. The Denon’s are very clean for this type of usage.

Shop around & let the local sales personalities know that you want this model but are not willing to pay retail. Check every other week or so for the 3300 or 3801 to go on closeout.

I know that waiting SUCKS but I got my AVR-5700, sugg. Ret $2799.00 for $1600.00 this way. (Brand new in the box, not a floor model) I am aware that you can't spend that now, but I included this info so you'd get an understanding that by waiting you could save almost 50% on a particular Model. Spend a little more than you want in a few months, and get a whole lot more in features and power! This will also help to prevent your wanting to upgrade shortly after your purchase.

DO yourself a favor & don't jump to a purchase immediately because you want it now. I've done that and regretted it. Please learn from my screw-ups. I’m sure that there are others in here that can attest to the wisdom of patience.

Good luck Dude & I do understand you frustration. Hope you got something out of this. Please let me know what you decide.
