I wanted the best quality for watching dvd's, since that was the entire purpose of getting into home theater (I don't go to the "regular" theaters)--so I went with 16:9. I finally have a small choice for HD programming too...

Stretch modes on the Pioneer (I have the SD582)are ok with me, and I'd rather view regular material in stretch, than have to fiddle with raster compression (the "squeeze trick")to try and get a full resolution image for a widescreen movie (ok, maybe it's automatic with the Tosh?).

Did we decide what the 4:3 Tosh does with a progressive input? Can it take a progressive input? If not, you'll be relying on it's internal line doubler (whether in the squeeze mode or not). Except for the Pioneer Elite, which most people agree has an exceptional internal doubler (with 3:2 pulldown), you'll get a noticeably better image with a true progressive output dvd player than you'll ever get using an RPTV's internal doubler.

How important is movie quality vs. everyday viewing? What do you want to optimize?
