Progressive problems: Pioneer DV-37 & Philips 34Widescreen TV

62.0.162.2

I recently purchased a Pioneer Elite DV37 DVD player and a Philips 34" widescreen TV (HDTV Ready)

I got everything hooked up OK (connected via component video cables); however there was no picture on the TV when the DVD was playing. I read the TV user guide, and it says that the composite video AND component video must both be connected (the the AV3 port) in order to get a proper picture. So, I connected the composite video and got a picture.

I then turned on progressive scan on the DVD, and I get the same picture twice on the screen: once on the left, and once on the right.

I checked the DVD user guide and there is a section called "compatability of this unit with progressive-scan TV's). This reads:

"Consumers should note that not all high definition TV sets are fully compatible with this product and may cause artifacts to be displayed in the picture. In case of 525 progressive scan problems, it is recommended that the user switch the connection to "standard definition" output. If there are questions regarding our TV set compatibility with this model 525p DVD player, please contact our customer service center."

It then goes on to list a bunch of Pioneer displays that are compatible.

As far as I'm concerend that's one heck of an atrefact. Now I didn't spend $3000 on an HDTV Widescreen set and $500 on a progressive scan DVD to watch movies in "standard output"

Anyone got any ideas why this is happening, or how I can fix it?
Anyone faced similar problems?

Unfortunately, I just had my stuff shipped overseas, so returning the DVD is not an option.

Regards

Mark
