Home Video Asylum

TVs, VCRs, DVD players, Home Theater systems and more.

I've asked myself the same question.

I think there's too many competing formats, and where DVD-DD and DTS are vastly superior to VHS, both are compressed and are not as good as CD. For example, I love Talking Head's Stop Making Sense, and ranks as one of my best sounding music videos, but the Stop Making Sense CD has superior audio.

Therefore, audiophiles prefer CD, SACD, 96K, or DVD-A.

Mainstream buyers prefer buying CDs because they cost less and can be played in cars, etc. My sons go to a lot of concerts and buy many CDs, but can't watch a music video.

I am not sure that Music DVDs sell that well--even though out of my 30 DVDs, about 20 are Music videos. Since I bought a SACD player in December, I've bought about 30 SACDS, two 96K DADs, 10 CDs, and only one DVD--Fantasia.
