Harman Kardon AVR 8000 problems

Hi,
I bought a refurbished AVR-8000. It had problems (lower output in right front channel as compared to the left). Harman Audio replaced it with another re-furb. This one also has problems (auto switching into Dolby Digital mode and intermittent static in the right front channel). I'm wondering if anyone here knows anything about this receiver. Was this a bad design? Has it always been prone to problems. I notice Harman no longer makes this receiver nor did they replace it with a new model. Makes me wonder why. Any help is appreciated.
