Re: Ultimate AV v. Home Theater Magazine

I subscribe to HT Magazine and have done so since its premiere issue several years ago...

It has gone through many changes since then, each I confess for the worse. It began as a very honest magazine that had both positive and negative reviews that were very reliable...

But with each "change" to the magazine, it seemed the reviews became less useful, and more lovey dovey. In the magazine's latest iteration (that started with the September 2004 issue, I believe) almost every review says the product is "one of the best."

They changed their point scoring system so that even a product they do not like (if you read carefully enough you can weed through the BS love fest and get to their real views) seems to score 90+ points every time, with many scoring 95+... Those scores were almost *never* given out in the past (a Bose product received a 67 in one of the early issues if I remember correctly), and the result is that the point system is completely useless to the reader now.

My advice is to get your money back... I doubt I will renew my subscription when it expires soon.... It's really too bad, as it used to be a great magazine in its earlier days.
