I like Epos and Energy better than some of the Polks. I'd have to go back and look somewhere to remember which models are which. Some Polks aren't bad - they're sure as heck better than some of the dreck you find at BB and CC. Oh, and another great series of inexpensive speakers if you can find them used or afford them new are the Image series from PSB.

The Perfect Vision had a rating on budget gear in their recommended components list - that'd definitely be worth looking up.

Part of the decision of "what speakers" depends on whether any of these people listen to music much. If they don't, I s'pose boom and crash is what they want (but not what they need, because the dialog and music soundtrack are located in the midrange).

I'd rather have a good L,R,C Dolby Pro-logic set-up that sounded really good than 5 crappy speakers and a tiny sub just to say I had surround sound.

I acquired speakers for the HT gradually, using Alon Lil' Rascals (now Nola Minis) and adding the rears last. They sound great for music AND movies. But that's just me, becuase I love music.
