Widescreen vs full screen

It depends on the percent of widescreen movies vs regular 4:3 ratio fullscreen movies you watch, what type of video output you are using, (s-video, component, DVI, etc.), your viewing distance from the display, and whether you want to spend your money on the better cosmetics vs performance.

I agree with Grant, when I bought our first widescreen HDTV, we went with the older CRT-RPTV technology, to buy the largest screen we could afford. (Pioneer PRO730HD)

ED is the 480p DVD format, so that's what you want at a minimum. We picked up a 27" Magnavox 4:3 HDTV, for my son, to use for gaming. Didn't cost much more than what you want to spend for the EDTV. But playing a widescreen movie, with bars top and bottom, is bad enough, a 20"-er would be painful.
