My experience

I bought a 6 ft. $100 Audioquest hdmi to hdmi and a 6ft. $40 Phillips hdmi to hdmi (from Walmart).

The $100 is twice as thick and has larger plugs/jacks (or whatever they're called)--similar to the difference between the standard and high end Ram models.

I compared both. I think the $100 Audioquest cable had slightly fuller colors than the Shillips, but the difference was so small, and in fact, may have been wishful thinking. It was an "unblind" test.

I kept the $100 cable also telling myself that it was better constructed.

I agree that the RAM cables appear the way to go, even though I've never tried them.
