BTW, have you tried watching your TV with just 2 channel sound?
In my bedroom, I have 40 inch LCD and 2 channel sound system (Quad 99 pre and amp, a pair of Spendor s3/5 speakers and older Velodyne servo sub). I just hook up the HD cable box and dvd player directly to the preamp.
Perhaps ignorance is bliss, but I never find myself longing for surround speakers.
