How much difference is there between 1080i and 1080p

Due to some weird financial business my 1080p TV Samsung 5687 may have to go in the bedroom, which to me means no HD. Therefore, My Panansonic 53x54 which is only 1080i will have to go in in the HT to be hooked up to the HD Toshiba A20. From 12 feet way is there much difference? BTW, the Panasonic CRT gets the best flesh tones of any TV I have ever seen. TIA
