Playstation 3 to outboard dac via toslink output

I'm thinking of a Playstation 3 as a replacement DVD player, chiefly because it will also handle BluRay and, yes, gaming. I'd probably want to send the digital audio signal to an outboard dac, via toslink, for better sonics. I don't - and won't - have a receiver to handle the signal, so a dac would be the way to go for our setup.

Has anyone given this a try in a two-channel system? Any thoughts or comments?
