Help from EAD owners on buying decision

I need some help on a purchasing decision for an EAD Ovation Plus processor ($1200). I currently have a very good two channel setup and I am shopping for a new dac. Thinking of getting the EAD surround processor to use mostly for two channel listening. I like the idea of the built in volume control and I have heard the EAD dac section is very good.

My question is,just how good is the dac section of the Ovation Plus compared the newest two channel dacs around $1200 price mark. Would I be better off getting something like the Benchmark Dac1 or similar. Also if I do use the EAD for 5.1, is it possible to only use the two front and two rear speakers. I don't really have room for a center channel at the moment. My front speakers are medium sized floor standing type and it doesn't make sense to get some small lesser quality speaker for the center channel.
