HD DVD came first to the market in USA, so they began with nearly 100% market share of discs and players.
Early 2007 HD DVD lost the the lead on monthly discs sales, due to PS3 sales being so much larger than standalone players, and now they have also lost the lead on monthly standalone player sales.

But to people who cannot count, Screen Digest can sell their findings :-)
