Home Video Asylum

TVs, VCRs, DVD players, Home Theater systems and more.

What is the point?

207.2.10.37

Ok, a lot of these DVD players (almost all of them, in fact) downconvert the digital output to 48Khz. Why? With the widespread availability of 96/24 compatible equipment, is this just a legacy backwards-compatibility thing biting us in the behind, or what? Why not offer the option in the setup menus?

Or is this just an excuse to sell a higher-priced model with this "feature?"

C'mon, you mass market manufacturers, get a clue!
