I guess the wiring is bit easier and cheaper with a DD equipped Receiver, otherwise either a DB25 cable or 6 RCA cables are needed I believe. It is the general consensus that it is better to buy the DD receiver than have the DD in the source (ie. DVD player) since it is more flexible and you only need one "digital" cable. You can also take advantage of DD broadcast audio from say a satellite dish.
