Don't hold your breath on recordable DVD...

38.26.184.169

the technology exists now, but it will be some time before you'll see it in an affordable package for consumers. In addition to making it work from a financial standpoint, manufacturers will have to deal with the threat of lawsuits from movie studios. Heck, the threat of lawsuits from movie studio kept non-recordable DVD off the market for a few years.

DVD hasn't been around long enough for anyone to know about reliability. Common sense, however, would suggest that in general, a heavier more expensive player is likely to be more reliable than a cheap, flimsy, lightweight piece of crap. That said, I haven't experienced any problems with my Toshiba 3006, Denon DVD 3000, Sony DVP-S7000 or Pioneer DV-09. These players range in weight from 6 lbs to 35 lbs. Go figure.
