I’ll bet next year at this time there will be several universal Hi-Def dvd players available.I might add that the picture on some recent dvds comes awfully close to hi def quality on my Sony LCD. My impression is that if the content is good to begin with, the video processor in the Sony can do a good job up scaling it to its native 1080p
