It's a reference quality 1080P transfer with uncompressed PCM audio. Even though I can't take full advantage of either, it is the best quality picture I've seen on my system and sounds pretty detailed too. The postproduction of the film does subdue some colors and emphasize others, but it is rather subtle (compared to, say, O Brother Where Art Thou) and I don't mind the effect. The vignette before the credits role, showing how Bond got his double-0 license to kill, is black and white. A fairly classy intro.

A few words about the movie, since you haven't seen it. Casino Royale is a return to page 1 and a return to the basics while also bringing Bond into the electronics age and digital revolution. Gone are the frills, silly gadgets, fancy weapons, drawn out car chases, boring boat chases, plane chases, all replaced by good old fashioned foot chases with stunts and sheer physical prowess that was actually riveting. Gone are the inept plans to dispose of Bond, replaced with a jaw-clenching torture scene that shows you another side of Craig's approach to the role.

The acting and plot were a step up from the average action film, as Craig did a good job underacting and handling the gritty, violent duties. The screenplay stayed somewhat true to the Ian Flemming. Even the bad guy did a good job with his "evil genius card player" LeChiffre character who bleeds from his eye. An extremely annoying bad guy in the hands of a different actor, but it was done right in Casino Royale.

Don't go in with unreasonable expectations and you will enjoy it if you're in the mood for action and violence. It's definitely the best James Bond film since the Sean Connery era, and maybe the best ever. Get it. If nothing else, the 1080P graphics during the opening credits and the subsequent foot chase scene at a construction site are alone worth the cost of the disc.
