Hi I live in Canada and while I have bought used equipment off the internet, my purchases have mostly turned out ok. Main thing is normal pre/power amp are relatively simple to fix.

Now I am looking to buy a receiver for a friend. Knowing receivers are much more complicated, I am a bit concerned with buying used on the web (like ebay). Even new ones like Yamaha usually are grey or us models. Their warranties are void when used in Canada.

Any suggestions on this will be great. I am looking for some feedback on any particular seller or if you run into trouble with the machine, how expensive it is to fix it without warranty. The model I am looking for is Yamaha RXV1800.
