My SONY KV-34XBR910 is failing. Repair or replace?

I could try the chip replacement I've read about on Agoraquest or a $250 "D" board from SONY or ?.
I went to CC last night but with the lightening and rain their satellite system wasn't working. I'll be sticking with cable!

So while there the salesmen explained about the superiority of a Plasma over a LCD. I'm not spending big bucks.
A Panasonic TH-42PZ80U is on sale for $1,200.00.
Does anybody have any experience with this set or any other suggestions.
I hate rainbow's, motion artifacts, & focus shifting.
