thanks Joe and my apolgies for the late acknowledgement of your feedback.

Right now, I'm at the concept stage and just thinking through how all this will fit together. Not having done a ton of research I'm leaning towards:

- PS3 or Oppo BDP-83
- Panasonic 46PZ85U (now less than $1K at Frys) - 3 HDMI inputs
- Dish VIP622 DVR (just added this)

This will start life as a 2-channel system, and I'll add the receiver and surround sound later.

So my preliminary thoughts are to connect the PS3 and DVR to the TV via HDMI and connect each source to my current preamp with RCA IC's. As you mention, probably best to experiment with the various cable formats to optimize things.
