You may be right. I had assumed that, if the remote had volume buttons, it would affect the analog outs. OTOH, I never tried it (except on some old CD players).

"By running a Line Out (Tape out, etc) from the receiver to the TV, the TV can get the sound from the receiver for those times where the "big" speakers aren't needed (like watching the news). "
Mebbe. If he has to power up the receiver, he might as well use the speakers.
